Violence by Teenage Girls: Trends and Context is the first report from the Girls Study Group Series by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. The OJJDP explores the trends in juvenile arrest rates, the factors that lead to youth violence, and the difference between genders in terms of their victims and environments in which offenses occur. The study also examines why girls are currently arrested more for assault charges than in the past couple of decades, even though there does not seem to be an actual increase in serious violence among girls. Instead, research suggests that this increase is due to stricter enforcement policies applied to girls.
